New Longarm Booking Process

As many of you know, I stopped booking quilts for longarm quilting in March 2022. It has been almost a year since I have quilted for customers! I had to close my books last year because I was experiencing severe burn out. Quilting was no longer fun and I had started to dread it.

You may already know, but I work a full time job on top of all the fun quilting stuff. Last year I took on too many things and it ended up being really bad for my mental health. It has taken me many months to actually want to quilt, or even be in my sewing space. But….now I am feeling ready to start quilting for others!

I REALLY don’t want to burn out again, so I am trying a new booking process. My hope is that this new process allows me to better balance my schedule and prevent burn out. So, without further ado, here is the new process!

Purchasing a Longarm Appointment:

The first new step in the process is that you will have to purchase a longarm appointment from the store on my website. I will post the appointments quarterly (every 3 months) and there will be two appointments per month. Existing longarm customers will get access to book appointments first, followed by newsletter subscribers, and then the general public. A password will be sent via email to allow access to the appointments at the designated times.

This booking method requires a $50 deposit to be paid up-front. This will ensure that we both stay accountable to the due dates we set together. This $50 (plus sales tax) will go towards your quilting total when the final invoice is sent (after I finish the quilting).

Booking Walkthrough

Enter the shop by clicking the “Longarm Quilting Shop” link from the site menu

You will have to enter the password that I will send you via email in order to get into the shop

You will see the appointments organized by month. There will be three months posted at a time.

Each month has two appointments available. You will have to select which week you will be able to get your quilt to me. The two options are the second week of the month, and the last week of the month. If you want to book two quilts in one month, you will select a quantity of 1 for the second week of the month, add to cart, then select a quantity of 1 for the last week of the month, and add that to cart.

After Purchasing an Appointment

After you purchase the appointment, you will receive a confirmation email from Squarespace. That same day, I will send you an email where we will agree on the exact date of the week that I will load your quilt. That is the date that your quilt MUST be to my house. It can be there earlier if you have it done earlier. I will send you a calendar invite to remind you of your date. I am also hoping to figure out a way to send you a reminder one week before your appointment.

Once we agree on a date, I will send you a quilt submission form. Once you finish your quilt, you can fill out the submission form. It includes details like quilt dimensions, thread color, batting type, etc. I will re-send the submission form 1 week before your appointment is scheduled, just in case you have have not already filled it out.

Everything else is the same! You will ship your quilt to me, or we can meet locally, I will quilt it, and ship it back!

So that is the new booking process in a nutshell! As always, please feel free to send me an email (tera@thequiltingsmith.com) or reach out via Instagram (@thequiltingsmith) if you have any questions!

Later Gators!
