Quilting Ideas for Your Cozy Cabin Quilt

We are coming up on the last few weeks of the Cozy Cabin quilt along! If you are like me, you might already be thinking about how you want to quilt it. Well, this is the post for you! Here are some designs to help get you inspired!

And don’t forget, I am offering 20% off quilting for QAL participants and one lucky person will be winning FREE quilting!

P.S. if you are not participating in the QAL, but love the pattern, you can buy it here.

How to quilt your cozy cabin quilt

If you end up sending me a quilt, we will take into account your desired “theme” and the fabrics in the quilt top before we pick a design. However, the designs I am highlighting here are pretty general and should look good on ANY quilt!

P.S. they are in alphabetical order because I seriously can’t rank them. I love them all!!

Amberly

This fun design has two sizes of circles nested between each other. I love this design for the Cozy Cabin quilt because the roundness softens all the sharp points in the quilt pattern.

The two sizes of circles will add both texture and dimension to your quilt. If you use deluxe loft cotton batting, the circles will pop, and it will look adorable!

Beaded Orange Peel

Another round design! You will begin to notice that this is a theme in this post. The is a fun take on the traditional orange peel design. The extra “bead” makes the shape more oval than round.

I love using round designs on patterns that have sharp points and square edges (i.e. log cabin quilts). They soften all the points, and they are forgiving if your piecing is not 100% precise (like mine).

Diamond Loops

This is one of my favorite pantographs that I have received from the Longarm League. It is not round!! But it does have some round"ish” loops in it.

I honestly think this design looks good on every single quilt. This is a great option if you don’t want to go the circle/oval route, but still want to soften your points up a bit. Since the design is staggered, it still helps to cover up any piecing that is not perfectly straight!

Donut Connection

This is another great Longarm League pantograph! The round dots work really well with the sharp stars, and the lines between the dots provide structure. This is a great option if you want to give your quilt a pop vibe!

This design will make your quilt pop and will provide so much fun texture. It reminds me of bubble wrap, and who can resist bubble wrap????

Interlocked Orange Peel

This is the second “orange peel” design that I recommend using for this quilt pattern. I used this on my own Gravitate Quilt, and I absolutely love how it turned out. Again, the roundness just works so well for this pattern. It also has more geometry to it, which may feel more modern to you.

I love making this pattern small, and having really dense quilting. The texture is fabulous!

Macaroni

This is another beautiful Karlee Porter design. I absolutely love the name, and I think it provides a retro feel with a modern vibe. It also adds a ton of movement. Your eye cannot help it! It has to go up and down the macaroni elbows!

The texture from the echoed lines within each arch is going to add amazing texture. If someone picks this, they will be my BFF!

Orange Leaf - Dark

So, I don’t know if this is technically considered an orange peel design (because it’s not in the name), but I’m going with it. I like that it has the look of a large orange peel, but the additional lines within each of the peels (slices? leaves?) make the quilting much more dense.

If dense quilting isn’t for you, we can still make this design work! We can make the design larger, so overall, it is more loose.

Orange Peel

We have finally made it to the classic orange peel design! This may also be referred to as pumpkin seed (which may be more appropriate based on the current season). I LOVE this design. It adds so much texture, but does not draw away from the quilt pattern design. It is more of a traditional design, but it still feels modern (to me at least).

I don’t think you can ever go wrong with the classic Orange Peel.

Woven Wind

The last design that I absolutely love on this quilt is Woven Wind. It adds movement and texture at the same time. It really makes the quilt look wind swept! This is another design that will be perfect for quilts that need a little forgiveness because the piecing may not be perfect (again, this is 100% me).

I’ve used it a lot lately, and I still can’t get enough of it!

My Wish List!

Last, but not least, these are some designs that I think would look fabulous on this quilt, but I don’t own. If you send your quilt to me, and are interested in one of them, I would love to purchase it! I saw the Love at Home panto on a Cozy Cabin Quilt made by Grape Soda Studio. You can actually see it on the banner of their website! I also love the look of Sadie’s Flowers and Triplet from two of my fellow Longarm League members. They would look great on quilts with more delicate or floral fabrics. I love the Macaroni design, and Julie Hirt’s Sunrise Skateland, is like Macaroni on Steroids. This would add so much movement and texture. I am dying to have a great excuse to buy it!
